  • 17 hours per week, Monday, Thursday and Friday 8.40am – 3.20pm, 1-hour unpaid lunch break, 38 weeks per year, term time only

Your role:

We are seeking a SEND Learning Support Assistant (LSA) to work within a small friendly SEND and pastoral care team within a vibrant community school. You will be supporting a child with physical needs under the guidance of the Year 5 teachers and be working with the Occupational and Physical Therapists. You will also be involved with working with SEND children on their individual learning plans, conducting assessments and delivering interventions. You will work with any outside agencies to implement the support they suggest.

Your responsibilities:

Supporting pupils

  • Build positive relationships with pupils, promoting high self-esteem and independence
  • Adapt communication style to respond to pupils according to their individual needs
  • Promote high standards of behavior, responding to incidents in line with the school’s behavior policy and guidelines on physical intervention
  • Assist with the development and delivery of individual education and support plans
  • Delivering small group and individual interventions outside the classroom
  • Complete assessments to determine the support needed for individual children

Teaching and learning

  • Contribute to the planning of differentiated learning activities as advised by outside agencies and SENDCo for individuals outside the classroom
  • Use ICT skills to advance pupils’ learning
  • Provide regular feedback to teachers on pupil progress regarding the targets set by outside agencies and those on their pupil profile
  • Monitor, record and report on progress and attainment to staff in school, parents and outside agencies
  • Contribute to the overall ethos, aims and work of the school

You will need:

  • GCSE or equivalent level, including at least a Grade 4 (previously Grade C) in English and Maths is not essential but preferable.
  • experience working in a school environment or other educational setting
  • experience working with children / young people with special educational needs (SEN)
  • experience planning and delivering learning activities.
