Purpose of the role
Colas are responsible for the eight-year Maintenance & Response contract for CW&C. The contract covers local Road Network within Chester and Cheshire West, as well. We deliver cyclical maintenance, reactive maintenance, incident response, severe weather response and minor works
Colas Ltd are looking for Highways Maintenance Operatives to join the team based at our Winsford depot, (CH3 7EX) or at our Guilden Sutton depot, (CH2 4EX) in Cheshire. As a HMO you’ll be working as part of a team to carry out highway’s maintenance duties as well as winter maintenance, and emergency response when required. Activities will vary across Patching, Traffic Management to carrying out maintenance activities such as Gully Emptying, Soft Estate, Street Furniture Repair, Winter Maintenance etc.
Main Responsibilities
As a HMO your duties will include but not be limited to the following:
- Undertake various Highways Maintenance activities from Gully Emptying, Winter Maintenance, Sweeping & Cleaning Activities, Soft Estate Clearance, Traffic Management, and others as required to effectively maintain the Highway Infrastructure.
- Working closely with your team members to promote effective Health & Safety within the workplace. Ensuring defined safe systems of work and risk assessments are adhered to
- Actively participate in Incident Management & Winter Service.
- Effectively use Colas plant and fleet and ensure all vehicles are checked safe before taking out in accordance with company policy.
- Working within Colas’ processes to effectively manage administrative tasks such as timesheet collation, capturing plant, labour & material use etc.
- Maintain professional approach positively reflecting the image of the company.
- Undertake all other appropriate duties as assigned by your line manager or Ganger as required by the business. Ensuring the satisfactory completion of works in accordance with Colas Health & Safety practices.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a HGV Class 2 licence, this is essential for this role. Experience of Highways Maintenance preferable but not essential. You will have a can-do attitude and willing to work with initiative, willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions and have good communication skills and capable of working in high pressure environments.
