Southport Education Group is a group of colleges providing further education to Southport and surrounding areas. There are 2 campuses which serve the area, one primarily focused around A level provision and the other for technical qualifications but some cross over does happen.

Brief job description:

Firebrand Training have an exciting new opportunity for a MIS Apprentice Developer with Southport Education Group, a group of further education colleges based in Southport.

Job Description:

The post holder will assist in the maintenance/housekeeping of the College Management Information Systems and designing/producing reports from them. There will also be an element of testing, validation and problem-solving data issues where appropriate.

Your duties and responsibilities in this role will consist of:

  • To assist and support in the preparation of SQL reports for management, staff and external agencies utilising relevant reporting software and output in an appropriate format.
  • To be 1st line support for the MIS developer team for users of the Student Records database and others relevant systems.
  • To assist in the administration and support of Reports and Dashboards used by all stakeholders across the organisation.
  • To assist with the daily ad-hoc data requests from college database systems.
  • To assist with relevant validation checks of the Student Records database.
  • To assist with the development and maintenance of the Student Records database and other systems as appropriate.
  • To implement basic system administration/housekeeping of the management Information systems.
  • To work with college staff to enable them to clarify and define their information needs, ensuring that specifications for development provide the required solution.
  • Process amendments to update the student database.
  • Any other duties commensurate with the post.

Qualifications:

Possession of a Level 2 Qualification in English and Maths

Future prospects:

Employment will be on a fixed term basis for the duration of the apprenticeship. There may be an opportunity for permanent employment following the end of the fixed term period and successful completion of the apprenticeship.

Training to be provided:

Firebrand’s sector leading Level 3 Data Technician (L3DT) Apprenticeship Programme trains apprentices to be able source, format and present data securely in a relevant way for analysis using basic methods. Our programme will enable apprentices to:

  • Communicate outcomes appropriate to varying audiences
  • Analyse structured and unstructured data to support business outcomes
  • Blend data from multiple sources as directed
  • Apply legal and ethical principles when manipulating data

Firebrands course is delivered either Online (online live instructor led), or face to face in the classroom environment (your choice). Our Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Learning Mentors (LMs) and world-leading trainers prepare apprentices to work across multiple sectors.

Completion of this apprenticeship will provide learners with the following world class vendor certifications in addition to the Data Technician apprenticeship:

  • Data Analysis and Visualisation in Excel
